Doing away with our usual silliness for today, we’re instead wishing all the best to the ever awesome Michael Schumacher. The Motorsport world has been left stunned by the 7 time World Champion’s serious skiing accident in France; he’s currently in a coma under expert medical supervision. Obviously all of us wish him the very best – there’s been a huge outpouring of support from fans, drivers, and F1 insiders alike, but all we can do is wait and hope he can make a speedy recovery.
We watched the German ace do his thing from 1998 up until his retirement at the end of 2012 (although his F1 career began in 1991, we only started watching in mid-’98). During most of this period he utterly demolished everybody else as, you know, that’s what being a genius is all about. He set many records along the way, and whilst the British media labelled him as cold and distant, we always found him to be charming and a great ambassador for the sport. His off track work for many charities (quietly donating many millions over the years), and support of road safety campaigns, highlights his impact on the world in general, and not just in the F1 arena. Here’s wishing you a full recovery, Schumi!
