Back in 2020 we did a celebration of cute pixel art. There are a lot of very talented digital artists out there, often casually promoting their work on social media.
We’ve spotted a bunch we’ve liked recently. And we’re bracketing this lot under cool pixel art (any excuse to show off some of this brilliant work).
And we want to provide YOU, dear reader, with a guided tour with of of the best work out there. Happy days.
Pixel Art Cool Enough to Make Any Gamer Weep Happy Tears
Okay then, here’s the batch! If you like what you see, go and give these talented peeps a follow on their social media channels.
We’ve taken some liberties here as some of the below are comic artists or 3D artists. Whatever! It’s cool stuff and we hope you like it.

Aurumek creates Earth-like fantasy landscapes and describes his work as being: “homesick for a world that never existed.”
There’s a Studio Ghibli vibe going on, as well as nods to SNES era RPGs (see the recent Sea of Stars for how popular that style is).

He’s from Switzerland, so it’s pretty obvious where some of his inspirations came from (hint: Schweiz is a beautiful country).
If you really like his work you can buy prints from his online store.
Gordon Zuchhold
Lean back and relax. Put on some headphones, and lose yourself a little. 💙🖖
I hope you enjoy my new pixel scene.🌊

Zuchhold is a pixel and voxel artist. He also adds sound effects to some of his work for relaxation purposes.
His speciality is exploring futuristic city environments, bathing everything in a neon-lit haze (kind of a voxelised version of 1982’s sci-fi classic Blade Runner).
Very nice, eh? Well worth adding another one of those in.
It’s a very popular aesthetic for modern video games. We’ll nod to the neo-noir indie game Stray from (2022) as a perfect example. Should you want to play something like this.
Eva Marková

From Prague in the Czech Republic, Marková works for the amazing indie studio Amanita Design (responsible for adventure game classics such as Pilgrims).
She’s an artist and co-author right now working on the studio’s cardboard-based next game, which is called Phonopolis. Here’s the trailer.
It’s not the first indie game to take this approach as the excellent Papetura (2021) by Petums was an entirely paper-based game.
Alariko

— Alariko (@Alariko_) September 12, 2023
Alariko’s style reminds of us Sylvain Chomet films such as The Triplets of Belleville (2003), all sharp angles exaggerated to exemplify French stereotypes.
The work constantly highlights pretty little French areas with a sense of seclusion or urvvan decay.
He classifies the account as a “failed” one on Twitter, although he has over 200,000 followers. If you’d like to make him not a failure, you can buy his work as prints.

— Kreum (ガティ・クラム) (@GuttyKreum) September 5, 2023
Gutty Kreum is obsessed with clouds and “good days”, often highlighting a light breeze through quiet areas in Japan.
The work demonstrates sleepy urban areas across Nagano, Isikawa, Kyoto, and various other Japanese locations.
Franek
I might have done a banger

— Franek (@Franrekk) March 21, 2023
Okay, we’ve been following Franek for ages on Twitter and love their work. It’s often focussed on small like pixel art characters, but sometimes has a wider sweep.
Franek is working on the upcoming indie game Arco right now, applying
There’s not information about who Franek is, which seems pretty common amongst pixel artists. We should they’re busy CREATING stuff, so it makes sense.
Camille Unknown

An art director from France, Camille Unknown hasn’t revealed much information about himself. All that’s clear is he’s an amazing pixel artist.

The style is rather gothic. He provides masterclasses on how to do this sort of thing on her Twitch account, should you wish to learn.
StuntmAEn Bob

— StuntmAEn Bob (@StuntmAEn_Bob) September 18, 2023
StuntmAEn Bob is from Bremen in Germany and he produces flat-out pixel art all the way.
A lot of it is highly minimalistic, as with the above, but he’s also prone to more colourful pieces.
And finally… Clément Morin
Okay, so Clément Morin is a 3D artist. Big difference to pixel art… but we’re not leaving his work off this site, dammit!
He’s from Normandy and graduated from Gobelins university in Paris. He bases his work around the wildly imaginative minds of childhood, mixing a sense of naivety with daydreams and poetry.
Well worth following him on his social channels and we hope he gets to put his work to wider use in future.
