Here’s a fun, creative musical exploration game. It’s the work of Sven Ahlgrimm, Mathilde Hoffmann, and Bastian Clausdorff—they’re based in Berlin and Hamburg, Germany.
The game launched in August 2024 and its unique concept gained a lot of press interest. It’s a musical exploration game where your creative skills pay off (even if you’re useless at composing). Awesome? Yes, indeedy!
Compose Masterpieces in the Groovy ODDADA
This is only out on Steam (PC/Mac) at the moment. Officially, it’s within the roguelite genre. But it is also a music builder, one with no pressure to achieve anything. That offers creative freedom and the chance to create some bangin’ beats.
Players take control of a choo choo train and must guide it through various diorama worlds.
In each area you must collect melodies to create a musical experience. There are six stages and in the final one you combine the gathered music bits and bobs into a whole composition. Like this!
It’s a unique concept, for sure, and a fabulous little game. One for all ages (although particularly great for kids), gamers, non-gamers etc. An opportunity to craft something and, if you like the results, you can save your music to your online collection.
ODDADA is a roguelite, then, as you can begin the six stages anew and craft some new music.
It’s also a game you can just sit back and watch in action. It has a great, cute, playful visual style to go with its creative requirements. And that relaxed pace makes it a joy to behold.
As you can probably already tell, this is a very relaxing game. It’ll take your mind off things—the world, work, smelly husbands, or stupid boyfriends.
Some gamers being the way they are, and this being the internet, some players have gone full ODDADA. Like this dude here, Roadtrip Warrior, who created an entire lo-fi album in a single day.
ODDADA is fabulous. No other way of putting it. Whilst it may seem to lack longevity in its initial playthrough, the trick is to keep coming back and carving out your groove.
As an educational tool for kids we think it’s fantastic.
Also, as a piece of relaxing, pick-up-and-play, relaxing escapism for adults it’s also spot on. A game of many wonders. Become the next digital Mozart? That’s all down to imagination, bro.
