As huge fans of the Runner series, the last outing in Runner3 (2018) was disappointing. A trip into 2.5D that fell a bit flat. But full marks for effort.

But now we have Bit. Trip ReRunner, which launched in September 2023 and is a total overhaul of Bit.Trip Runner (2011). AND it throws into the mix a full level maker AND music maker! Oh my days…

Euphoric Rhythmic Adventures Galore in Bit. Trip ReRunner

Okay, so this update is by Choice Provisions (previously called Gaijin Games) the developer responsible for Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien (2013).

It’s still one of our all-time favourite indie games.

And it’s one we hail as one of the best ever video games for autistic gamers. As it is. Lots of challenging repetition and joyous timing larks, stimming over and over, and here it is all over again with Bit. Trip ReRunner.

We must say straight off, the game is fantastic.

This is how you do a remake! Completely inspired and building on the original in the most positive ways imaginable. There are 150 new levels here.

After the introductory first few stages, which as super easy, you’re into the meat of the game. That’s when the hyper-addictive qualities of the experience kick off.

We think the game works so well is down to its hypnotic qualities. You really get lost in this world, timing you button pressed and d-pad hits to perfection, and you get into a bit of a manic groove. It’s very addictive.

Plus, with the updated game mechanics and some seriously trippy graphics and this is just an instant winner. The game just evokes joy.

The score to ReRunner is magnificent. On the whole, it offers pulse-pounding numbers that really immerse you into the experience. The music is essential, as it puts you into THE ZONE whilst you play along.

There are more chillout numbers, too, such as this. But it’s all a thing of beauty and Bit. Trip games just wouldn’t be the same without this stuff.

Fans of the series can rejoice about all this as Bit. Trip ReRunner is a lovingly packaged game at a great price. It offers everything you want from with and all with a dash extra.

The level creation tool, soon in titles such as Nintendo’s Mario Maker 2, is easy to use and means you can try your hand and creating something nifty.

You can also try out user creations, too, making it a seemingly endless endless runner! Choice Provisions retweeted a Christmas-themed user example recently.

Lots to do galore, then! It’s a game that’ll keep on giving. We think it’s a magnificent thing and encourage any platforming enthusiast to give it a whirl.

A Little Bit About Bit. Trip ReRunner’s Music Maker

The music in this series has always been fantastic. And the score was remixed for this remake to brilliant effect.

However, Choice Provisions has also gone ahead and chucked a music maker into the mix with its level design MacGuffin.

We’ve not delved too much into the music maker yet, but with the help of the above video you can really make some banging beats by the look of things. Bonus!
