BWIRDS: The Cute Playdate Spelling Game 🐦

BWIRDS the Playdate wordplay game

The diddy yellow Playdate handheld has a surprising number of wordplay games. The latest is BWIRDS, where you need to spell out words using a selection of birds you catch.

It’s by indie team Threethreethree Games from Edmonton, Canada, and this one is a cute and fun time of it. Special nod as it’s sure to entertain any kids you have, too! As spelling is enportent, as we all know. Indeed.

Fun Birdo Wordplay Action in BWIRDS

BWIRDS is sort of a mix between an educational game and wordplay stuff and casual fun. The aim of the game is to help a bunch of writers struggling with writer’s block to find words and complete their upcoming masterpieces.

To do this, you’re equipped with a “grabber” that you use to seize hold of birds that have letters on them.

Players must judge their grabbing moments carefully, as you want to snatch useful letters so you can spell out good word combinations to earn that all-important money. But you can spook other birds when grabbing others and only get a limited number of grabs per turn.

You gather birds, you spell out words, and then earn moolah by providing these words to the writers. Warped concept? Yes! Here it is in action.

It’s very much a casual spelling game, but one with bags of charm.

Playdate games are typically short, which is why this one is $5. There’s considerable replayability value going on here as it’s good fun and another great pick-up-and-play concept.

The replayability bit comes from high scores you can aim for by aiming for better word combinations.

It looks lovely, has a chirpy little score, and there’s birds! Flapping and looking cool and they let you spell out words! Really, what could be better?

With eight characters to unlock, four special bwirds to find, and high score leaderboards, there’s a surprising amount going on in BWIRDS. Another fun entry to the Playdate catalogue and a great way to FORCE your kids into spelling properly. Thumbs up from us, man. 👍
