Kind Words 2 (lofi city pop): Be Bloody Nice for Once, Ok? πŸ“§

Kind Words 2 (lofi city pop)

This cosy game is called Kind Words 2 (lofi city pop), it launched in October 2024, and you can get it on PC. Indie game stucio Popcannibal created this, a two-man team of Ziba Scott and Luigi Guatieri.

The first in the series launched in 2019 on PC, with the sequel arriving in October 2024. It’s not exactly a game, more an interactive messaging service where you send strangers nice messages. Hurray!

Poetry and Other Typing in Kind Words 2

There’s the lovely mental wellness game Fireside Feelings (2025) that made us aware of this subgenre within cosy games. The genre as a whole is booming right now, doing great business, getting a lot of press attention.

Why? As things in the world are shit! And these sorts of titles offer a momentary escapist release.

How Kind Words 2 (lofi city pop) works is simple. You control a character in a little town who sends nice letters to people. This is a real online community. Whoever buys the game can:

  • Pitch their problems and worries into the digital world
  • Respond to other people’s problems with encouraging words
  • Ask for culture recommendations (video games, books, films etc.)

It’s a game about compassion and empathy, then, with the goal of being nice to random people. A revolutionary act in the hostile online world. This is how it goes.

The difference over the first game is the little town you can go and interact with. There’s quite a bit to do, including indulging in poetry writing, but the main focus of the game is still that letter writing element.

And it’s clearly doing a lot of people in the world good. As in the online space, to explain your worries you either go to the anonymous Reddit or troll someone with verbal abuse on other social media platforms (e.g. “F you you f’ing f you’re a loser and a commie!!!”).

Now there’s a better way! Games like this.Β Some of the Steam reviews (which are left by real life players) highlight how life-affirming this can be:

“Such a unique and interesting way to foster connection between complete strangers. I’ve received some of the best advice of my life here and given my own insights to people who might benefit from them. Heartfelt, relaxing, reflective, and a great reminder that we’re all human with different stories but similar experiences.”

There’s a lo-fi soundtrack to go with all of this, too, composed by Clark Aboud.

Yeah, then, it’s a lovely little game if this sounds like your sort of thing. It’s not something you sit playing for hours, more 10-20 minute sessions where you send off responses helping people.

If you behave like a prick, you’ll get reported and banned (apparently).

So, the onus is on you to behave yourself. But the cosy game genre attracts the right sort of people, anyway, you’re not going to get a tabloid reading Reform voter on here complaining about communism. It’s more a space for geeks and neurodiverse people with an introspective nature.

The super cute art style and relaxed nature of it all make it a winner with us.
