This little indie game gem is by ln404. It just launched (March 2026) and involves you riding a boat around inside a whale’s stomach across the town of Whaleville.
It’s available on Steam! With its beautiful graphics, major charm offensive, fun humour, and chilled out nature, A Completely Fictional Story About a City Inside a Whale is a big win from us.
A Completely Fictional Story About a City Inside a Whale
After being swallowed by a whale (not quite a calamitous happening as you may fear), players are left to control a wind-up boat and solve a bunch of socioeconomic problems in the Whaleville region.
The town is packed full of eccentric characters. And everything is at a relaxed pace, no time limits or anything, so you just head on out and get exploring!
The humour in A Completely Fictional Story About a City Inside a Whale is immediate. Is wildly irreverent and self-referential. This thing does not take itself seriously.
You just float around, interact with locals, solve issues (such as disruption to a local festival), and enjoy it all. Behold! Also, this footage is from a demo version from a years back, the launch version has more vibrant graphics.
The thing is ยฃ5 and that’s for a reason. This is a short indie game. Indie games are usually short and this is no different, offering about 40 minutes of gameplay time.
That’ll nark some people off, we guess, but the point here is a brief slice of excellence. And it delivers this with serious panache, along the lines of clean-up sim Spilled! (2025) and it’s boat-based chillout times.
And there’s a cute soundtrack to go with things, too. Really fits the aquatic atmosphere. Th
And a bit more of the ambience here.
Yes, then, the game may be short and sweet. But the emphasis is very much on (irreverent) sweetness and we had a lot of fun with the game. The humour and those beautiful graphics made us happy bunnies for these brief 40 minutes.
Hopefully the game will do well, gift In404 with a bigger budget, and next time out things can be a bit more extensive. Until then… you can always replay this again.
