Right, now later this year we’ll Go Geek and cover the 20th anniversary of one of the SNES’ (the best video game console in history – factorama!) final masterpieces: Yoshi’s Island. We’ve been sidetracked by Nintendo’s latest release, though: Yoshi’s Woolly World.
No one does disgustingly cute as well as Nintendo, but they also have a relentless habit of crafting charming and addictive titles of the highest quality. This is why they command such respect in the industry – they may not sell as well as the relentless violent shooters we now see, but they continue to provide brilliance and imagination.
Yoshi’s Woolly World
Woolly World (a 2D sidescroller with a very wool based theme) is simply a total joy. Within minutes it’ll have a smile on your stupid jaded face as you romp about solving puzzles, traversing your environment, and taking in the vibrant animation, glorious music, and standard Nintendo sheen.
We love it, and Nintendo released a woolly Yoshi amiibo to go with it. You can touch the amiibo to your screen and BOOM! A second Yoshi joins the action you can use to solve puzzles. It’s difficult, too, so don’t let the cutesy looks fool you. It’s not as tough as 2014’s exceptional Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, but all the same it’s one evil SOB at times. To complete a level 100% you need to be highly wily, although the difficulty settings can be adjusted if you have a wee one so they can romp through the game like SELL OUTS.
Yeah, so it’s out now on the Wii U and, well, if you don’t have a Wii U yet you’re one crazy fool. One-crazy-damn-fool! Anyway, enjoy this 20th anniversary video for Yoshi games in all their glory.
