The addictive onslaught of Reddit only took hold some time in 2025. Prior to that, our esteemed editor (Mr. Wapojif) hadn’t really dabbled in any of it.

But something clicked last year and he’s been all over the social news and forum social media platform ever since. With a mixture of the usual irreverence, idiocy, and charmingly helpful insights and stuff. Let’s explore it all.

Reddit and the Urge to Tell Other People Stuff

Okay, so it’s an online forum that launched in June 2005. There are many forums (subs) on the platform. Hundreds of thousands of them, all within Reddit, and you just have to search for stuff you’re interested in then join a subreddit to engage in debate.

Users are called Redditors and can personalise their profiles a bit.

We guess the main thing about Reddit is it’s anonymous. You can be anonymous on other social platforms, but on the likes of Instagram you’re much more likely to get a sense of who you’re engaging with online.

On Reddit, you don’t and it’s advised you don’t share any personal details about yourself. It’s considered very odd if you do try to share details, such as uploading a picture of yourself.

Despite the anonymity, you’re expected to behave. If you going around spouting hate crimes or being a total jackass, you’ll soon be banned from specific subs or the whole platform. Although that doesn’t entirely prevent toxic behaviour and toxic subs, as each sub is operated by voluntary moderators who can pick and choose how they enforce their rules.

Is this all a good thing? For this feature we typed in “Reddit” to YouTube and immediately got the usual YouTube hyperbole and clickbait. It’s the end of days, apparently:

• Horrifying Corners of Reddit

Now, we don’t know much about this business, but Reddit is one of the most popular sites on the internet with some 124.4 million active users every day. The platform is noted for its political activism and is generally noted as a more progressive social media space, home to many COMMUNISTS (!!!) and atheists.

Not that it’s explicitly for left-wingers as all are welcome. There’s a sub we got banned from called /UKPolitics that should be called /UKConservatives that’s home to people blaming immigrants for everything. If that’s your type of thing, you can go there and live in denial

The Reddit Multi-Persona Alert

Reddit is addictive and once you’re a Redditor you’re in this racket for life. Being the mischievous scamps we are, whilst we do abide by Reddit’s rules we also enjoy irreverence a great deal.

Thus, we make it our mission to adopt persona during our antics across various subs:

• Ourselves: Just being our ever-helpful, charming, efficacious selves to make everyone’s day a little bit brighter.
• Daft witticisms: We excel at being daft and witty, so we do this a fair bit as well to much merriment tee hee foddle hah.
• Pompous jackass: Adopting a pretentious sense of superiority to lecture anyone and everyone we discover. Utterly humourless and insufferable, yet certain of intellectual prowess, this argumentative persona is the one that gets you banned quickly from subs.
• Below average IQ mode: Wade haplessly into situations and fail to understand what’s going on, but with a jovial sense of committing to an argument no matter how fundamentally flawed it well and truly is.

Pompous jackass is our favourite as it works well in so many subs, haughtily lecturing victims until the moderators have seen enough and you get banned/permanently banned.

To be so insufferable they just want to be rid of you for good. Hurray!

We don’t promote continuously doing that as it’s a platform where people go to relax and whatnot, but sometimes we just can’t help ourselves. Besides which, once we’re banned that’s it and the sub restores its equilibrium. All the best to them, we had a laugh, and now they won’t hear from us ever again.

Embracing the Reddit Way of Things

The best bit about Reddit is actually clicking with various subs and bonding with randoms spread all across the world. You’ll never meet any of them, but you get used to regulars and get a read feel-good-factor when you provide someone with handy advice.

That may seem hypocritical given our persona thing above, but we generally only adopt that when we see someone else behaving like a pompous jackass in a sub. Thus, we head in to out-jackass them.

For the rest of the time, we’re absolute luvvies we can assure you. Experts in dishing out life advice, masters of suggesting a cool new indie game to play, and dumbasses getting ourselves banned for being immature/petulant.

It is the ultimate online experience.
