Not that we’re connoisseurs of fishing games, but Cast n Chill by the brilliantly named Aussie indie team Wombat Brawler is a fine example.
It launched in June 2025 and is perfectly timed now, as of September, with the glorious autumnal season ahead of us. Which is where the game truly excels, with its pixel-perfect depictions of orange-hued trees (and some glorious banjo music). Lovely! π
Chillax and Fish in Cast n Chill
This one is only available on Steam (at the moment) and fits into the ever-popular cosy game genre. Although it does have some idle genre elements, too.
Your goal? Explore lots of serene lakes, do some fishing, chill awhile.
As you catch fish, you have the opportunity to upgrade your fishing gear and aim for some increasingly tough catches. As you do all that, you have your pet dog with you on your boat. Huzzah!
Yes, then, Cast n Chill presents a relaxed time of it. That’s the whole point. Cripes, too, Wombat Brawler has created some of the most beautiful autumn pixel art scenes we’ve ever seen. Just look at the game in action.
The above is for the Autumnwood Lake DLC that’s just launched to add to the game’s content (and coincide with the actual Fall season, rather than its summer June 2025 release).
As you’d expect, it’s a rather methodical game and sedate in its nature.
You’re not expected to rush, you just pick your gear and then head out into the wilderness. Rinse and repeat across some stunning locations, with about five-to-six hours of complete gameplay time.
The game is a work of art, make no mistake about that. The type of skylines on offer are up there with an Ivan Aivazovsky marine art special.

To go with all that, there’s a banjo heavy score by aptly named composer Space Banjo (we cover all those beautiful noises in the section further below).
Before then, we’ll summarise on Cast n Chill.
It’s a relaxing game and does exactly as it intends to. There are no big gameplay revelations, more a sense of solitude and peace as you play through it. Given the mayhem of the world as of 2025, perhaps this is exactly what you need right now.
The asking price (Β£12/$15) may put some people off, but be fooled by the five hour first playthrough. There’s a lot on offer in this little package and you’ll want to revisit its calming waters again in future (i.e. ROI).
Celebrating Space Banjo’s Ambiance in Cast n Chill
This is some beautiful work from Space Banjo (Greg Gibson), highlighting that the banjo really is quite the underrated instrument. It can be joyous and upbeat, even silly, but then you can have this deeply atmospheric vibe.
To be clear, however, Mr. Gibson didn’t composer the music specifically for this game. Rather, the devs at Wombat Brawler licensed the music from his canon of work.
Naturally, this is a relaxing game and so the music matches the theme.
Root and the below Sprout set the scene for what you’d expect. Rather fitting indeed for those lovely pixel art backdropsβleaves everywhere and the like.
Thanks to the wide range of variations the composer has created across his work, the game manages to avoid any repetition across themes. It’s fantastic stuff, frankly, and makes for some of the best indie game music of 2025.
Mr. Space Banjo himself is active on YouTube and posts regular content. The below is from the summer of 2025, where he went out into the woods to create 432 Hz of stress relief for 60 minutes. Enjoy!
