From is a popular US sci-fi horror TV show that’s run since 2022. It stars actors and has a script. But did you know there’s a UK TV show called Frome? It’s a sci-fi horror show set in the civil parish in Somerset, England, called Frome.
Already recognised as one of the most boring TV shows in history, it’s run for two series since 2023 and is scheduled for another 14. Fans of the show value its mind-numbing tedium as a distraction from their daily struggles (e.g. washing the dishes, hanging out the washing, and dealing with the existential dread of late-stage capitalism in free-fall decline).
The TERROR of Life in Sleepy Frome
The cast for this series is just outstanding. Look at it go:
- Arnold Schwarzenegger
- Sandra Hüller
- Sandra Bullock
- Sandra Oh
- Sandra Bernhard
- Sandra Mae Frank
- Sandra Dorne
Apparently, there’s no specific reason why the cast includes so many people called Sandra. The creator of Frome, Sandra Sandrason, told Professional Moron in an exclusive interview:
“Why did I cast women only called Sandra? Well… erm… er… no, it has absolutely nothing to do with me being called Sandra at all, how bloody dare you ask me that, you oaf!? Away with you!”
It was officially the shortest interview we’ve ever conducted, lasting less than 60 seconds. Regardless, we still found her insights to be very helpful in ascertaining why Sandra Sandrason cast only women called Sandra. The reason? No reason.
Anyway, as for the TV series it’s set in Frome, filmed in Frome, and has many extras who are from Frome.
Each episode begins with 2009 F1 World Champion Jenson Button (Frome’s most famous notable former home town resident) introducing the series, revving an engine, and winking cheekily into the camera.
The episodes then explore horrifying developments in around the town, such as a speeding van lightly bumping into the civil parish tea shop and denting its sign. The locals (all the Sandras) respond by forming an angry mob, swarming the van, shredding it to bits, and impaling the driver on top of the local chippy.
Frome has proved very popular with older viewers, many of whom tune in to watch it by error as they think it’s Coronation Street, but then can’t be bothered to change the channel. The series is set to end in 2066.
The Best Frome Episodes
Of the 115 episodes of Frome so far, three have struck a cord with viewers and bagged the episodes an Oscar nomination:
- Pigeon Droppings: The civil parish is besieged by pigeons who produce masses of droppings all over the place. Disgusted, the community responds with extensive complaining and angry “shoo!” utterances about sight of a pigeon. However, when an old man is pigeon pooed into hospital, the community responds by calling the army and tanks etc. wheel into the community to save the day.
- The Jenson Button Episode: Jenson Button drives his title winning Brawn F1 car around the streets of Frome, causing mass tinnitus and other grumbling. He’s eventually banned from the region and must skulk off back how to his pathetic Monaco residence.
- Armageddon: NASA discovers a 300-mile-wide asteroid is heading directly for impact with Frome. With an estimated explosive power of 33,000 atom bombs, this has the potential to wipe Frome off the face of the Earth. Brave residents respond by nailing wooden boards over windows and putting up fences. It later turns out it wasn’t an asteroid at all, but a marauding empire of alien invaders.
Despite Arnold Schwarzenegger being lead actor, he’s only in three episodes. The rest of the time the various Sandras have cameos and the like. Honestly, it’s a great show.
