Anger Foot: Ultra-Violent FPS With Feet and Rage 🦶

Anger Foot the video game

Anger Foot is a foot-based FPS with a unique take on the oversaturated genre. As you may be able to tell from the game’s title, there’s an emphasis on a lower extremity in this one.

This one is by Cape Town of South Africa indie team Free Lives (responsible for the epic Broforce) and launched in July 2024. It’s a frantic mix of FPS, run and gun, kicking type stuff. It’s a hoot to play and made us appreciate sneakers a whole deal more.

Kick Your Way to Glory in Anger Foot

Okay, this is only available on PC at the moment! Head to Steam if you want it.

In Anger Foot you take control of a rogue vigilante lizard monster who lives in Shit City. After his precious sneaker collection is stolen by local gangs, he heads out on a revenge mission to get them back.

What follows plays out in somewhat standard first-person shooter form.

It’s just your great big Anger Foot of revenge plays a huge part in the action. You use it to smash down doors, kick enemies, and generally navigate around the various stages you enter. Most of which are corridor-based romps with fast-paced action and reflexes needed.

One of the big draws to the game is that big old boot that comes lashing out.

One press of a button and you can Anger Foot it one in style. That has many uses, from killing enemies (who go down in one hit), to smacking doors in. The doors go flying into enemies to take them out, which is all rather satisfying. As you move through the early levels, you get to grips with the flat out pace of the game and gather some new weapons.

You really need to see it in action to get an appreciation for it, so here’s the mad SOB in action.

At its core this is still an FPS, though, so you do get a range of other guns.

But it’s a unique FPS. You can think of each room as a mad bastard rush in and out. Very much like an arcade game, but with enough variation over its five hours of gameplay to make it consistently engaging. Even if, inevitably, it can get a bit repetitious booting people up the arse.

THUS! At its best, it’s thrilling. At its worst, it’s a bit of a slog along. It doesn’t help that if you die, you have to start the level over again (can be a bit frustrating with no checkpoints).

You have to take it for what it is.

And the gaming press in 2024 either loved it or didn’t love it. Some reviews were very snippy (2/5), others lavished it with 9/10 praise. We’re more on a 7/10, damn good for what it is, well done for trying something a bit different.

Anger Foot looks great, has crunchy and punchy sound effects, and you get everything you’d expect from it. Madness, escapist fun, and an inventive addition to the FPS genre.
