Agony Aunt: “Why do guys overuse the laughing crying emoji?” πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

A man using the face with tears of joy - laughing crying emoji - to troll

The face with tears of joy emoji (also known as the laughing crying emoji, cry-laughing emojiy, or just πŸ˜‚) is the go-to emote for right-wing trolls.

But what does one do when one is on the receiving end of this moment of derisory passive-aggression?

For human females (“babes”) on the receiving end of this on dating apps and the like, this can lead to some confusion. Let’s explore the issue!

Trolls and the Cry-Laughing Emoji as a Dating App Defensive Mechanism

Dear agony aunt,

I’ve been on dating apps quite a bit recently and guys usually expect my phone number after about 35 seconds (“hi how r u” – “wuu2” – “give me ur no babe” as you highlighted in why do men on dating sites say nothing?).

When I say no quite a lot of them then change their attitude and start getting super tetchy. Like really quite verbally abusive. What’s all that about?

They’ll also start overusing the laughing crying emoji all the time like Elon Musk does on Twitter because he knows he doesn’t have a very good point but somehow πŸ˜‚ reinforces in his mind he does.

So the guys on apps will be like “whatever babe I’ve got loads of hot chicks who want me anyway so you’re loss lol πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚”

And so I put, “Well if you do why are you on a dating app still?”

And they’ll put, “to get more babes lol roflmao πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ stupid feminazi πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚”

So you block them because they’re obnoxious, but then there’s an army of them to replace the ones you block! Wave after wave of man babies armed with their precious πŸ˜‚ emoji ready to roll it out if they don’t get their own way (i.e. get my number immediately).

“wotever babe i dont knead ur number anyway ur a munter πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚”

All of this behaviour has led me to several conclusions:

  • A lot of men are very annoying.
  • A lot of men are obnoxious.
  • The πŸ˜‚ emoji has been tainted by man babies.

This is a sad state of affairs and I plead to you for assistance in my quest to find a man who isn’t a prat.

Regards, Denise

Hello there, Denise. Blokes like that use the emoji as they’re bitter, childish, unimaginative, and just a bit dumb.

As a basic form of ridicule used by trolls, they think it winds someone up. When in reality the person on the receiving end of this barb will, in most instances, look on bemused as to why the other person is so stupid (see The Psychology of Stupidity for further details).

The best way to deal with someone rolling out the laughing crying emoji is to:

  • Realise you’ve got a dumbo on your hands.
  • Excuse yourself from the conversation as follows, “That’s nice, dear, but I’d like to chat with someone intelligent now. All the best!”
  • Abandon the chat.

You can then go about your day as normal.

Sadly, the use of πŸ˜‚ has reached epidemic proportions due to the abundance of stupidity in the world. As such, learn to blank it out and you’ll find yourself talking to worthwhile individuals in no time.
